Postcard of The Week: Posadas in Benque Viejo del Carmen

A snapshot from this past Saturday: the first night of the annual Posadas in the Catholic and historic town of Benque Viejo del Carmen, just 15 minutes’ drive from San Ignacio — the only area in Belize to uphold and celebrate this Hispanic tradition.

Posadas are a nine-day re-enactment — from December 15 leading up to Christmas Eve — of Joseph and Mary’s biblical journey in search of an inn from Nazareth to Bethlehem.

Stay tuned for my piece on Benque in the next edition of Moon Belize.
