Happy Garifuna Settlement Day, Belize!

Happy Garifuna Settlement Day to all Garinagu people in Belize and away from home. Last year’s festivities and re-enactment in Dangriga are among my top five lifetime travel and cultural experiences–a must-see if you either live in Belize or are visiting during the month of November.

I wish I were there again this year, to dance away to the beat of Garifuna drums, savor cassava porridge at sunrise and lose myself in the sea of black, white and yellow.
