While dreaming of palm trees, islands, sips of fresh watermelon juice and bird chants waking me in the morning, I’ve been flying through September–packing up my apartment, writing. researching and writing some more.
I’ve started working on my first chapter of Moon Belize, 10th Edition. It’s all very exciting. The volume of work is indeed massive, as I expected–but I have an awesome Moon team assigned to work with me, my writer support system! It’s clear that every hour, if not minute, of my day will have to be strictly managed (how does a girl say no to a sunset sail?), but I intend to take it all in. Along the way, I’ll be sharing postcards and experiences with you from my journey as a new travel guidebook author (stay tuned to my Facebook Page for Instagram shots along the way and other surprises).
I can’t wait for the new stories to tell of Belize, the fresh photos to come, old friends I’ll be seeing and mostly, grateful to be doing what I love and to be so clearly on purpose.
In the meantime, I’m re-packing my suitcase for the fifth or sixth time (please tell me how women survive months on the road with just ONE dress and no heels?).
1– My blog has made the semi-finalist list in TWO categories of the annual Black Weblog Awards: “Best Photography in a Blog” and “Best Travel Blog”. Please support my blog by voting for me under both (photography first if you must choose). It takes just three clicks. Scroll down on this page to find the categories, select Sun and Stilettos, and then scroll down and click “submit”. Thank you much!
2- My most recent photo publication is in the October issue of Ms. Magazine (also its 40th Anniversary issue); you can pick up a copy from any US newsstand near you.
You can read the announcement here.
If you haven’t heard of GoAbroad.com, get ready to block out some hours out of your day (and weeks). It’s one of the top online resources for not only all things travel, but also for ideas and opportunities for work, studying or volunteering abroad. It’s chock full of valuable programs from around the world. I check it regularly and it was one of the first sites I visited when I returned home last week from my 3-months away. It’s one of my favorite sources of travel inspiration. Thanks GoAbroad, for the award and recognition! And for all the fantastic information you provide to encourage travel.
