Postcard from Belize: Sunrise at Caracol

Copyright L. Girma

Another one for my list of most memorable moments in Belize: standing at the top of Caracol’s tallest structure in my “pajamas” and watching the sun rise.

From San Ignacio, Caracol is a two-hour, super bumpy but exciting ride through postcard-like scenery – from mountains to river pools and forest reserves. Well, well worth the sore behind.

It’s Belize’s tallest Maya site and one of its most important historically.

You can see Guatemala from there, it’s that close.

You’re probably wondering how on earth I managed to be at a Maya site at sunrise, especially since it’s a protected archeological site and visitors are allowed only during normal business hours.

That story is coming this week…:-)
