On Wednesday morning, I awoke to the sad news that a popular, well-known resort in San Pedro (and in Belize) went down in flames after one of the cabanas caught fire the night before, spreading to the rest of the property. Like most of us who know Ambergris Caye, I was in shock at the images and videos of the hotel engulfed in massive flames.
Ramon’s Village Resort wasn’t just another hotel. It was a landmark on the island and in the country, an example of success in Belize’s tourism industry.
